Mission Statement: The mission of St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center (SJRMC)  Emergency Medicine Residency Program is to provide an organized educational experience leading to the competent practice of emergency medicine.  This training shall be based on education goals and objectives in the Core Curriculum for Emergency Medicine

Purpose: The purpose of the SJRMC Emergency Medicine Residency training is to provide progressive learning experiences that develop the attitudes; skills and knowledge of a physician to efficiently provide quality emergency care.

  • ACGME Accredited since September 2013  Program # 1103300212

St. Joseph’s osteopathic program is sponsored by the Northeast Osteopathic Medical Education Network (NEOMEN) and the ACGME program is sponsored by New York Medical College, a member of the Touro University System.

St. Joseph’s is an academic medical center providing excellent training for our residents in a high volume, high acuity, and urban environment.  We have a wide diversity of patients as well as cultures. It is the trauma center for Passaic County and is renowned for exceptional cardiac and cancer care as well as the Children’s Hospital care.

Highlights:

  • High volume of patients, with over 160,000 visits last year
  • High acuity patients with over 20% of the patients we see admitted, including many to critical care units
  • Over 1,047 trauma patients seen annually in our ED
  • Mobile ICU units and Northstar Helicopter
  • We are staffed with trauma surgery, neurosurgery, vascular, cardiothoracic surgery 24/7
  • Stroke Center
  • Heart Center with EKG transmission to cardiology fellows via smartphone and cardiac cathater lab availability 24 hours.
  • Medical control for an EMS department that receives 120,000 calls annually
  • Receiving hospital for Montclair State University
  • Toxicology consult  in house  24/7
  • Pediatric ED with over 45,000 visits annually
  • Residents have opportunities to serve as teachers and mentors for all 4th year students
  • Monthly Resident - to - Resident, as well as Resident - to - Attending meetings to discuss future directions of the program
  • Residents are active contributors to the curriculum, and resident input is sought after every rotation
  • Residents participate in administrative meetings and committees

EM Fellowships obtained by graduating EM residents:

EMS/Disaster Emergency Medicine, Emergency Ultrasound, International Emergency Medicine, Neuro-critical care, Hospice and Palliative Medicine, International Emergency Medicine, Pain management, and Geriatric Emergency Medicine.

Medical student rotations are available for Emergency Medicine, Pediatric Emergency Medicine and EM Ultrasound. The application can be obtained through the following email: sjrmcer@gmail.com.

Further information regading each of these rotations can be obtained through the email provided or through the Residency Coordinator.

Dates applications are accepted: July 15 for Osteopathic match and Sept 15 for the ACGME match.

Interview Dates: October through January (Subject to change)

Number of Letters of Recommendations:  At least three letters of recommendation with Standard Letters of Evaluation (SLOE) preferred.
