St. Joseph's Healthcare System and Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey
Contract Renewal Status
The current contract between St. Joseph's Healthcare System and Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey ends December 31, 2013. We have been negotiating in good faith with Horizon to reach an acceptable new contract for 2014. If an agreement is not reached, St. Joseph's will no longer be in the Horizon network, effective January 1, 2014. Please note, this contract includes Horizon's Commercial and Medicare lines. Horizon NJ Health (Medicaid) is not impacted by this contract.
In the coming days, Horizon will mail a letter notifying their participants that St. Joseph's contract with Horizon will terminate effective January 1, 2014. The letter will explain their patient rights to continuity of care and what steps need to be taken so they can continue their course of treatment at St. Joseph's. This formality is required by state insurance regulations.
We truly appreciate your ongoing support and efforts on behalf of St. Joseph's Healthcare System, especially during this negotiation process. Again, we hope that we will be able to negotiate a satisfactory contract. However, without any rate increase from Horizon, this will not be possible.
