st._patricks_day_2009_003PATERSON, NJ [MARCH 31, 2009]- The 248th Annual New York City St. Patrick's Day Parade honored the Sisters of Charity in recognition of the 200th Anniversary of their founding in the United States by Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton.

 

This year was the first time the Sisters marched as their own contingent. Over 600 people marched in the Sisters of Charity contingent, which included members of our own St. Joseph's family.

 

September 29, 2009 marks the 150th Anniversary of the New Jersey branch of the Sisters of Charity (of Saint Elizabeth), the founders and sponsors of St. Joseph's Healthcare System.

SJHS Earns Quality Respiratory Care Recognition

William McDonald Speaks at ConferencePATERSON, NJ (MARCH 24, 2009) - William McDonald, President and Chief Executive Officer, St. Joseph's Healthcare System, traveled to New Delhi, India where he served as a featured guest speaker at The Commemorative International Workshop held in early March. Mr. McDonald presented an overview of the "Impact of Global Recession on Health Care & Medical Education - The World Over".

8th Annual Heart ConferencePATERSON, NJ [MARCH 16, 2009]- St. Joseph's Healthcare System hosted their 8th Annual St. Joseph's Healthy Heart Conference, held at William Paterson University. The 240 people from throughout northern New Jersey, benefited from 21 workshops on heart disease and stroke risk reduction, advances in diagnosis and treatment, as well as strategies for managing stress and living with heart disease.

 

April Stearns, Catering Director at William Paterson University, Pat Ortlieb, RD, CDE, Senior Clinical Dietitian, St. Joseph's Wayne Hospital, and Julie Edwards, RD, CDN, Clinical Nutritionist, St. Joseph's Regional Medical Center, offered three one-hour cooking workshops where they showed participants how to prepare low-fat, heart-healthy meals.

SJRCM Oasis Center OutreachPATERSON, NJ [MARCH 16, 2009] - Pat DiPietro, RN, CDE and Mary Schneider, RN, CDE, Certified Diabetes Educators from the John Victor Machuga Diabetes Education Center at St. Joseph's Wayne Hospital in Wayne, NJ, provided two one-hour workshops on diabetes to women at Oasis: A Center for Women & Children. They explained the importance of reading food labels and encouraged the ladies to include more fruits and vegetables in their diets. The workshop, one of many others, was part of a daylong community outreach program, which included nurses and other staff from various specialties and departments through out St. Joseph's Healthcare System.
