Rheumatology

The Division of Pediatric Rheumatology at St. Joseph’s Children’s Hospital strives to provide the best care possible for children and adolescents with rheumatic diseases.  Pediatric rheumatic diseases are comprised of chronic, complex autoimmune and multisystem inflammatory diseases, which often can be a challenge to diagnose and treat.  Pediatric rheumatic diseases differ significantly from adult rheumatic conditions, and require specialized care with the considerations of growth, development and quality of life of pediatric patients.  With the specialized and unique training of our pediatric rheumatologist, we offer expert and quality care tailored for each child’s needs in a pediatric focused environment.  Through our family centered care and collaboration among the various pediatric disciplines, we are committed to provide the most comprehensive and complete care for each patient.

The Division of Pediatric Rheumatology provides comprehensive evaluation, diagnosis and management of several rheumatic conditions, including:

  • Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis
  • Systemic Lupus Erythematosus
  • Juvenile Dermatomyositis
  • Mixed Connective Tissue Disease
  • Vasculitides
  • Scleroderma (systemic and localized)
  • Periodic Fever Syndrome and other autoinflammatory diseases
  • Musculoskeletal Pain Syndromes, including fibromyalgia
  • Reactive Arthritis
  • Lyme arthritis
  • Other connective tissue diseases
