The Child Care Center

The Child Care Center at St. Joseph’s University Medical Center provides quality child care to children between the ages of 2 months and 5 years whose parents are employees of St. Joseph’s. During the summer months and school holidays, we also provide care to children ages 6 to 13 years. We are open from 6:30 am to 6:00 pm, Monday through Friday, 52 weeks a year, closing only for major holidays and conveniently located across from the St. Joseph’s University Medical Center, 800 Main St. in Paterson, NJ 07503. Children may be enrolled for five or fewer days.

The Child Care Center is licensed by the State of New Jersey’s Department of Children and Families. We are also Nationally Accredited through the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC).

We provide a program designed to foster the child’s development in a comfortable and encouraging environment. Our classrooms are engaging, safe, and nurturing, and support all areas of development. We ensure that each child develops physically, socially, emotionally, and intellectually, and is able to meet his or her full potential. Children leave us to enter Kindergarten fully prepared to meet the complex demands presented to them.

The teaching faculty is among the most highly qualified in New Jersey. They have each studied child development and early childhood education, and receive ongoing training while employed with us to increasingly strengthen their understanding and pedagogy.

We work closely with each child's family, so that a relationship of mutual support is developed. In this way, a partnership is created to ensure the wellbeing of the child and family.

SJUMC Physician Implants Smallest Defibrillator

St. Joseph’s University Medical Center’s cardiac electrophysiologist Satish Tiyyagura, MD, FACC, Director, Electrophysiology Laboratory, is among the first in New Jersey to implant the newly FDA-approved mini implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD), an automated treatment of life-threatening ventricular arrhythmias. Ventricular arrhythmias, are a leading cause of sudden death in the United States, especially among elderly people. It can be treated with medication, but many times an ICD is needed to protect the heart and prolong life.

“This smaller device is particularly beneficial for thinner patients or patients with less fat and soft tissue in the upper chest, like older patients,” says Dr. Tiyyagura. “We’re committed to providing our patients with advanced technology that will help improve their quality of life; this is an example of that kind of technology.”

ICDs are used for people who have had an abnormal, fast heart rate that caused them to faint or caused their heart to stop pumping properly. The new device, manufactured by Boston Scientific Corporation, is 20 percent smaller by volume and up to 24 percent thinner than others on the market. The ICD is implanted beneath the skin, near the collarbone. Leads are placed inside the heart and are attached to the ICD.
