Educational Curriculum

St. Joseph’s Family Medicine clinic in Clifton combines a modern state of the art facility with experienced faculty providing personal attention, which is a hallmark of this boutique residency within the confines of a large tertiary care medical center that is a fully accredited by the ACGME.  Training opportunities abound with the high level of cooperation and collegial support of our other fully approved ACGME and Osteopathic programs.

We take pride in our diverse and innovative curriculum that is offered and supported by residents, faculty, and guest lectures in the department.  Every July, the incoming residents receive a month-long orientation in the Family Medicine clinic under the guidance of the program director, associate program director, core faculty, and chief resident.

The St. Joseph’s Family Medicine Residency Program provides inpatient and outpatient training that offers residents the opportunity to develop the necessary skills to practice outpatient or inpatient medicine upon graduation.
Evaluations are provided after every rotation via the online portal, “New Innovations”, which also includes a duty hour logger and progress tracking.

St. Joseph’s Family Medicine conducts daily morning conferences and Wednesday morning academic sessions, which include different lectures and workshops.  Topics are rotated to enhance the curriculum and provide evidence-based approaches to commonly seen cases in family medicine. Protected academic time not only focuses on medical knowledge for board preparation, but also on the utilization of evidence-based medicine to provide state-of-the-art patient care.

Journal club, weekly journal quizzes, dedicated pharmacology teaching, M&M conferences, billing and coding practice, EMR optimization tips, and board review practice are all integrated into the teaching curriculum.
Additionally, we have scheduled closed-door resident led Balint groups with our board-certified faculty psychiatrist, which serve as an open forum for residents to discuss issues and concerns in a non-judgmental environment, without the family medicine faculty.
