City Green Pop Up Farm Stand at St. Joseph’s Wayne Medical Center

City Green Farm Stand at St Josephs Wayne HospitalFarm fresh produce from the City Green urban gardens in Clifton and Paterson was available at a Pop Up Farm Stand on campus at St. Joseph’s Wayne Medical Center, thanks to the collaboration between City Green and St. Joseph’s Health. The farm stand offered an array of colorful, delicious vegetables, including herbs, peppers, heirloom tomatoes and squash to area residents as well as St. Joseph’s Wayne Medical Center employees and visitors. St. Joseph’s Wayne Medical Center Chef Maurice Alameda and Joy Adriano MS, RD, CDN, Senior Dietitian, Clinical Nutrition Services, St. Joseph’s Wayne Medical Center, shared nutrition and health information and preparation techniques, including recipes related to the season’s farm fresh produce offered at the pop up farm stand.

“Sound nutrition is the foundation for overall wellness. I applaud City Green as they work to provide healthy food options at affordable prices, as well as nutritional education programs to our communities,” said Kevin Slavin, President & CEO, St. Joseph’s Health.

“We are pleased to bring City Green’s Pop Up Farm Stand to St. Joseph’s Wayne Medical Center. The turnout was great and we enjoyed the interaction with so many St. Joseph’s employees,” said Jasmine Moreano, Director of Community Engagement for City Green. A Passaic County-based nonprofit organization, City Green manages two organic, urban farm sites: a half-acre Learning Garden & Farm at Eastside Park in Paterson and a five-acre Learning Farm & Eco-Center in Clifton. Produce from City Green’s farms is sold at their stands in downtown Paterson, downtown Passaic and Clifton and through the mobile pop up farm stand that operates in Passaic County. As an added incentive for low-income customers to shop at the City Green Farm Stand, City Green operates a farmers' market incentive program enabling all SNAP and WIC customers to receive a dollar in City Green Bucks for every dollar spent in federal nutrition benefits. Last year, City Green sold over 25,000 pounds of fresh produce at their farm stands. To learn more about City Green, please visit www.citygreenonline.org
