St. Joseph’s Health Welcomes Veronica Chehata, MD, Spinal Cord Injury Specialist

Wayne, N.J. (November 4, 2022) —St. Joseph’s Health is pleased to welcome Veronica Chehata, MD, physical medicine and rehabilitation physician and neurorehabilitation specialist. 

“Dr. Chehata’s specialized training in general rehabilitation, neurorehabilitation and spinal cord injury makes her an excellent addition to our team,” said Roger Rossi, DO, medical director, St. Joseph’s Acute Rehabilitation Unit.  “Since partnering with Hackensack Meridian Johnson Rehabilitation Institute last year, St. Joseph’s Health has been dedicated to enhancing and expanding Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation services offered to patients in our community and the Northern New Jersey area.”

“We are excited that Dr. Chehata has joined our highly skilled team at St. Joseph’s Acute Rehabilitation Unit in Wayne,” said Dr. Sara Cuccurullo, chair, vice president, medical director at JFK Johnson Rehabilitation Institute.

Prior to joining St. Joseph’s Health, Chehata completed her fellowship in Spinal

Cord Injury Medicine at Penn State Health in Hershey, Pennsylvania. She earned her Medical Degree from Penn State College of Medicine in Hershey, Pennsylvania. She pursued her internship in Internal Medicine at UPMC Pinnacle in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania and subsequently completed her residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at The Donald and Barbara Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell in Long Island, New York. She received her Bachelor of Science in Biology from Lebanon Valley College in Annville, Pennsylvania.

“As a physician, I am passionate about serving individuals with general rehabilitation, neurorehabilitation and spinal cord injury needs,” said Dr. Chehata. “I understand the importance of patient-centered, interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary care in improving physical function and quality of life. I am excited to join the rehabilitation team at St. Joseph’s Wayne Medical Center-Hackensack Meridian Johnson Rehabilitation Institute.”

Dr. Chehata evaluates and manages patients with spinal cord injuries caused by trauma or from medical conditions such as multiple sclerosis, arthritis or infection. She is trained in various forms of physical therapy, the use of medications and other innovative methods to help a patient rehabilitate after a spinal cord injury and manage pain. 

Dr. Chehata’s office is located at 224 Hamburg Turnpike on the campus of St. Joseph’s Wayne Medical Center in Wayne, New Jersey.
