In addition to the above, residents spend an average of 7-8 weeks per year rotating through the continuity clinic in week long intervals.

Night Float: Our night float system includes full resident coverage for admitting and cross coverage responsibilities and allows residence on call to go home after patient turnover at 7PM.

There is a formal MKSAP curriculum with each 4 week block being dedicated to particular fields of medicine. There are assigned readings and cumulative assessments.

Didactic Sessions

Morning Report: Morning Report affords residents an opportunity to review cases with residents and faculty in a collegial atmosphere. Emphasis is placed on oral presentation, work-up, history-taking and physical exam skills, differential diagnosis, and instituting systems-based approach plan of care.

Grand Rounds: Grand Rounds are held every Wednesday. Speakers include regional/national leaders and our own faculty on a variety of healthcare topics.

Morbidity/Mortality Conference: Held on the first Wednesday of each month, M&M highlights cases that pose educational opportunities with a focus on examining systems of care, identifying errors, and creating system solutions.

Journal Club: Conducted by the Director of Research & Associate Program Director, residents analyze, present, and discuss selected articles using an evidence-based approach.

Ethics Conference: Monthly lectures related to a wide variety of commonly encountered problems such as End-of-Life Care, DNR, professional responsibility, conflict of interest, and physician/patient management. Ethics-for-Lunch Series also takes place throughout the year.

Board Review: Biannual sessions are divided among the major content areas as preparation for the ABIM exam. In addition, we provide an in depth Board Review Course for PGY 2-+3 year residents.

Noon Conferences: Held once weekly in the afternoon, these didactic conferences review a wide range of medical topics.

Emergency Management Lecture Series: During July & August, conferences focus on the emergency management of frequently encountered problems/illnesses and specifically geared for PGY-1 residents.

Research Methods Course: Residents are taught the fundamentals of clinical study design, statistical analyses, and evaluation of research findings.

Program Director’s Teaching Rounds: Residents make teaching rounds once per week with the Program Director.
