Palliative Care is comprehensive care for patients with serious conditions for which cure is limited. The focus of care is quality of life.
St. Josephs’ Health provides comprehensive, interdisciplinary and compassionate care focused on the relief of suffering and improvement of quality of life for patients and families coping with serious illness, while remaining sensitive to the values of the patient and family.
The Palliative Care Consultation Service is led by a full-time, fellowship trained physician and consists of an interdisciplinary team of physicians, nurses, social workers, dietitians, pastoral care, case managers, hospice nurses, nurse practitioners, pharmacists, and other professional consultants working together to meet the special needs of the patient and family. With a passion for caring, our multidisciplinary palliative team focus on enhancing the quality of the lives of those facing serious illness. We will guide you and your family through the days ahead by tending to your physical, emotional, psychological and spiritual needs as you cope with diverse challenges. This includes communicating often and clearly while controlling pain and other associated symptoms.
Palliative care is available to all patients and families who face serious illness or change of health status. It is not limited to end-of-life care, but focuses on comfort and relief of suffering, even during times when patients are receiving other treatments to improve their condition.
