Therapist provides comprehensive rehabilitation services to a patient in the acute rehabilitation unit.

Dedicated Inpatient Rehabilitation for Intense Recovery

If you have experienced a severe or life-threatening illness or injury, you may need intensive, hospital-based therapy before you are ready to return home.

For over 20 years, the Acute Rehabilitation Unit at St. Joseph’s Health has been providing advanced rehabilitation services with the goal of maximizing our patient’s functional independence and enabling them to return back home and into the community.

St. Joseph’s Health is proud to partner with Hackensack Meridian Health’s JFK Johnson Rehabilitation Institute to bring nationally recognized rehabilitation services to our Acute Rehabilitation Unit, the only rehabilitation facility of its kind in Passaic County. Located in a hospital setting, our inpatient rehabilitation unit offers comprehensive rehabilitative services around the clock for patients in need of intensive recovery.  Our board-certified physical medicine and rehabilitation physicians oversee an intensive therapy program that may include a combination of physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech-language pathology, with 24-hour care from nurses who specialize in rehabilitation.

Conditions treated on the Acute Rehabilitation Unit include:

  • Amputation
  • Brain Injury
  • Cardiac Rehabilitation
  • Guillain Barre
  • Hip Fractures
  • Major Traumatic Injuries
  • Parkinson’s Disease/Other Neurological Conditions
  • Pulmonary Rehabilitation
  • Spinal Cord Injury
  • Spine Surgery
  • Stroke

Our team works with you and your family to determine the best plan for you to achieve your goals, and because inpatient rehab occurs within a hospital setting, your care team is always nearby.

Your progress does not end once you leave our unit. Our physicians continue to coordinate your rehabilitation needs as a part of our outpatient Aftercare Program. If appropriate, additional outpatient services, including physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech-language pathology, are available at multiple locations.
