Expert Rehabilitation Services During Your Hospital Stay
After surgery, illness or injury, many patients need rehabilitation care during their hospital stay to regain their health and function.
St. Joseph’s Health offers a comprehensive team of rehabilitation experts to maximize function and independence so patients can go home safely. Our rehabilitation program is led by physiatrists — physicians with specialized training in physical medicine and rehabilitation – who lead a multidisciplinary team of medical professionals, including physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech-language pathology.
The goal of hospital rehabilitation therapy services is to assess each patient and collaborate with the medical team to ensure a safe transition following your hospital stay. After a comprehensive evaluation, our rehabilitation team will develop customized treatment plans tailored to each patient’s individual needs. This may include physical, occupational, or speech/swallowing therapy during their hospital stay, in which case therapists will visit them and complete therapy in their hospital room. In addition, our experts may refer patients to go home with homecare services, outpatient therapy, or further rehabilitation at an acute rehabilitation facility or subacute facility. Our rehabilitation team will also evaluate the need for equipment (i.e. cane, walker, commode) to ensure a safe and efficient discharge.
