Specialized Therapy to Regain Your Life

Incontinence, constipation, pain with intercourse, urinary urgency and frequency are some of the most common symptoms of pelvic floor muscle dysfunction.  Pelvic floor is a group of muscles, ligaments, connective tissues, and nerves that is located at the base of hips, also known as the pelvis. Both men and women have pelvic floor muscles that may become uncoordinated, weak, or tight. This kind of muscle dysfunction can be debilitating, embarrassing, and severely affect quality of life.

Pelvic floor rehabilitation is a specialized physical therapy program that focuses on strengthening, stretching and releasing the pelvic floor.  At St. Joseph’s Health, our pelvic floor therapy program offers a comprehensive, evidence-based approach to systematically diagnose the condition, find the root cause, and design a personalized treatment plan based on each patient’s unique needs.

Our therapists have specialized training in pelvic floor dysfunction and use a variety of techniques to diminish pain and increase the strength and functionality of the pelvic floor muscles.  Our pelvic floor physical therapy includes an evaluation to assesses the strength, flexibility and tone of the pelvic floor muscles; exercise to focus on muscle awareness, retraining and coordination; manual therapy to addresses muscle pain and spasms; and other techniques to restore the pelvic muscles, optimize function, and regain quality of life.
