Patient and Family Advisory Council

Make Your Voice Heard

Patients and caregivers are essential partners in our mission to provide high quality care. If you have been a patient or a family member of a patient who has been treated here, we invite you to join our Patient and Family Advisory Council (PFAC). The Patient and Family Advisory Council at St. Joseph’s Health is a group of current and former patients, families, and hospital staff who work together to improve the patient experience and quality of care.

The Patient and Family Advisory Council helps to improve programs, services and policies within the organization and promote a culture of patient- and family-centered care.  It helps us learn from patients’ experiences and integrate their ideas into our care delivery.

Patient and Family Advisor Responsibilities

Volunteer patients and families collaborate with employees (clinical, administrative and support) to provide guidance on how to improve the patient and family experience.  The role of the Patient and Family Advisor is primarily consultative. Members will serve as the voice of patients and families.

  • Providing input on how to improve our policies and care practices
  • Giving feedback about your experience with us
  • Letting us know what went well and what we can do better
  • Help identify and resolve issues

Is Being a Member of the Council Right for You?

We are looking for current or former patients and family members to join our group.  Being a member of the council may be a good match with your skills and experiences if you can:

  • Speak up and share suggestions and potential solutions to help improve hospital care for others.
  • Talk about your experiences as a patient or family member — but also think beyond your own personal experiences.
  • Talk about both the positive and negative care experiences and share your thoughts in a respectful way.
  • Work with people who may be different than you.
  • Listen to and think about what others say, even when you disagree.
  • Keep any information you may hear as a member private and confidential.
  • Regularly attend monthly meetings
