Care Management

The purpose of Care Management is to collaborate with the patient, their family, physician(s), and other hospital resource staff to plan, coordinate, evaluate, and implement the options and services required to meet the patient’s health needs. Care Management uses communication and available resources to promote quality, cost-effective outcomes in the hospital for the timely and collaborative discharge of a patient.

The Pediatric Neurology Division is dedicated to providing comprehensive evaluation and management of children with disorders of the brain, spinal cord and musculoskeletal system. We work closely with specialists in the Neuroradiology, Pediatric Critical Care, Neurosurgery, Genetics, Child Development and Rehabilitation Divisions.

Dental Services

IMG 2285The Pediatric Dentistry Division of the Department of Dentistry provides a dental home for children from Paterson and the surrounding communities. Comprehensive inpatient and outpatient pediatric oral healthcare is provided in a family-centered environment. Our goal is to provide children with a positive dental experience and to encourage healthy dental habits to last a lifetime.

Our services include cleanings and examinations, sealants, fillings, tooth extractions, space maintainers, interceptive orthodontic appliances and patient/parent education, including dietary counseling. Outpatient procedures are provided at the Family Health Center, located at 21 Market Street, Paterson, NJ 07501. Emergency services, treatment under sedation and inpatient care, including oral rehabilitation under general anesthesia, are provided at the hospital’s main campus at 703 Main Street in Paterson.

Our staff is also well equipped to provide services to pediatric patients with special healthcare needs. Children with cleft lip and palate and other craniofacial issues who receive team care at the Regional Craniofacial Center may access comprehensive dental treatment at our facilities.

Cardiology

The Pediatric Cardiology Program at St. Joseph’s Children’s Hospital encompasses a complete range of noninvasive diagnostic and therapeutic procedures to care for children with congenital or acquired heart problems. Board-certified pediatric cardiologists and dedicated pediatric echocardiographers follow patients with heart disease from infancy into adulthood.

Using interventional cardiology, we are able to treat cardiac defects in a nonsurgical way that precludes the necessity of open heart surgery.

Cardiac Surgery

St. Joseph’s Children’s Hospital offers a wide range of surgical procedures using cutting edge technology and minimally invasive techniques to treat all forms of congenital heart defects. At St. Joseph’s Pediatric Intensive Care Unit for preoperative and postoperative care, all patients who undergo pediatric surgery have the benefit of care in our Pediatric Intensive Care Unit.

Know Your Rights

St. Joseph’s Health is committed to educating patients and their families on their rights under Federal and NJ State Laws.

As a patient of St. Joseph’s Health you are entitled to be informed about your medical condition and treatment, to consent to or refuse care, and to prepare an Advance Directive (living will) indicating the kind of medical care you want if you become unable to decide for yourself. If you require further information about Advanced Directives or assistance in completing an Advanced Directive form, please call Pastoral Care at 973-754-3015. Advanced Directives are available in English, Spanish and Arabic.

For help with decisions regarding life support, care at the end of life, or other ethical issues, please call our St. Joseph’s Health Ethics Hotline at 973-754-3633 or notify the care team to request an ethics consultation with our Ethics Committee. This committee is comprised of hospital personnel and community representatives who are available to review patients’ or families ethical concerns and offer other recommendations.

Questions and Complaints/Grievances

You have the right to present questions or grievances to a designated St. Joseph’s Health staff member and to receive a response in a reasonable period of time.

POLICY ON TREATMENT OF TRANSGENDER PATIENTS

Transgender patients who are admitted to St. Joseph’s Health hospitals will be allowed to maintain medication(s) they are already taking, as previously prescribed by their non-St. Joseph’s Health healthcare provider, provided the medication is not contraindicated as determined by St. Joseph’s Health medical personnel.  This policy pertains solely to the maintenance of an admitted patient’s preexisting course of treatment, as previously determined by their non-St. Joseph’s Health healthcare provider, and does not mean St. Joseph’s Health hospitals have to initiate or recommend any treatment for gender dysphoria, including medications. St. Joseph’s Health will treat transgender patients in accordance with the Catholic faith and the Ethical and Religious Directives for Catholic Health Services, as amended by the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops.
