Program Director General Surgery Residency Program
Director : Liver Pancreas surgery/complex abdominal surgery

Welcome to the General Surgery Residency Program at St. Joseph’s University Medical Center. Thank you for your interest in our program. This is a very exciting time for our program. We have been training outstanding general surgeons since our initial AOA accreditation in 2009. In 2017 we became an ACGME accredited General Surgery Residency Program and received continued accreditation 2019.

The goal of our program is to train exceptionally qualified surgeons who have the skills and ability to function at the highest level and provide state-of-the-art, compassionate patient care. Our faculty believes their mission is not only to produce technically superb and independent surgeons but in addition, to produce surgeons well-grounded in the basic science of surgery and with sufficient clinical judgment to render complete care of the surgical patient.

Our residents have the advantage of rotating through several different surgical subspecialty services in addition to general surgery. These include Trauma and Surgical Critical Care; Breast Surgery; Colon and Rectal Surgery; Endocrine Surgery; Gastrointestinal Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery; Surgical Oncology; Hepatobiliary and Pancreatic Surgery; Pediatric Surgery; Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery; Vascular and Endovascular Surgery; Transplant Surgery. We, as well provide extensive training experience with minimally invasive and robotic surgery.

Our residents are active in clinical research throughout their 5-years of residency with full support and guidance from the faculty.

We are looking for strong, well-rounded individuals, who want to make a life-long commitment to learning the discipline of general surgery. We, as well, encourage applications from members of the military and have several faculty members in active service, which can provide further guidance and support.

Thank you again for your interest in our General Surgery Residency Program and do not hesitate to reach out if you have any further questions.
