When you need urgent medical care at a moment’s notice for the most serious types of injuries, illnesses, or falls, St. Joseph’s Health is here for you. We are prepared to handle the most seriously injured trauma patients 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
St. Joseph’s University Medical Center is designated a Level II Trauma Center by the state of New Jersey and a verified Trauma Center by the American College of Surgeons. This means that we are capable of handling serious traumatic medical conditions, including surgery, emergency diagnostics, and critical care services. Some injuries commonly treated in trauma centers include serious burns, injuries from serious car accidents, stab wounds, gunshot wounds, and head and brain injuries. Our trauma center serves the residents of Passaic County and all other surrounding communities, receiving patients by ambulance and helicopter. They are welcomed by our trauma team, who can quickly diagnose and treat life-threatening injuries.
The Trauma Center is staffed with trauma specialists 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Trauma surgeons, specialty nurses, anesthesiologists, radiologists, therapists, technicians and many other trauma team members are prepared for any emergency. Our trauma surgeons are board-certified in surgery and trauma critical care. These certifications involve extensive training in caring for patients affected by serious and life-threatening injuries. This expertise means patients receive a higher quality of care, faster. Our trauma surgeons are skilled in treating serious traumatic injuries, such as gunshot wounds and car accidents. We also regularly care for people who have other urgent needs requiring immediate attention, such as appendicitis, gallbladder infections, and falls. As many traumatic injuries affect more than one part of your body, our trauma surgeons work side-by-side with emergency room physicians and other specialists to make sure we care for every part of you — from the moment you come through our doors.
