All residents are required to engage in a minimum of one quality improvement and research project. Residents receive teaching in quality improvement and introduction to research methods and a hospital statistician is available for support. Most projects are done with partnerships of residents and faculty. Residents participate in the department quality improvement presentations, St. Joseph’s Research Day, and are encouraged to submit their projects to national conferences. St. Joseph’s provides funding to assist residents for their research projects for submission or publication. Several residents have successfully presented their projects at regional and national conferences and had their work published in peer-reviewed journals.
